Lower temperatures and changing aspens are bringing in the fall vibes this late September. It's intriguing how a drop in ten degrees can bring such a change in mood and aura. People are breaking out their chunky sweaters, their earth-tones, and talking about the upcoming holidays.
I myself am excited for October for a couple of reasons: One, my sister's baby shower will fall in the beginning of the month and it is going to be an Oktoberfest theme. I cannot wait. My dirndl came in the mail and I cannot wait to sport my 1/16th German roots. The whole party is required to dress up and the co-ed party will have the traditional baby shower events as well as those classic Oktoberfest games. I plan to use my creative mind and hands to help create some simple yet impactful decorations out of the hoards of butcher paper that lives in my job's supply closet. The next event in October that I am excited about is Halloween. My love for Halloween has grown in the past five years. Each year I look forward to creating a persona or character. The past few years I've been Prince, Catwoman, a flamenco dancer, and Selena. This year I have a few ideas up my sleeve and I can't wait to find an excuse to dress up each day of the Halloween week. My love for dressing up emerges out of my own desire to be creative and free. Dressing up allows for you to express yourself in the moment and also to escape into the different facets of your personality. Putting on a costume opens up closets of your own personality that you can temporarily exercise out of. When I was Prince, I felt outrageously sexy even though I covered in numerous layers and dawned a micro-mustache. My latex Catwoman costume made me feel like I could fight crime stealthily in the dead of night. When I was a flamenco dancer, I imagined I had been raised in a small Spanish town with a passion for the slow tempestuous dance. And as Selena, I didn't feel much different...I just felt curvy and proud of my body in that purple jumpsuit. So, bring on October and the excuses it allows me to dress up. I cannot wait to put on different hats and play with the different sides of Brianna.

Saturday mornings are meant for Yoga and a coffee shop visit before the hour of nine. I am currently sitting at my favorite coffee shop in Golden, Colorado sipping on a black coffee paired with a big ass cranberry scone. The sun is still laying flat and reminding me of the promise of the rest of the hours of the day. I love my Saturdays, especially since I finished grad school. My typical Saturday lacks an agenda, sans Yoga at eight a.m. with Karen. Otherwise, I am a free bird. I haven't wound up at Bean Fosters for a couple of months, but man it's still as good as ever. The treats always hit the spot, the view of the Table Top Mountains are stately and peaceful, and the patio table on the outside is always left empty for writing and sunbathing. It's the perfect place to `begin a wandering Saturday.
Along with the views, I get to eavesdrop on the most interesting of conversations. I am currently sitting next to a couple who seem to be on a date. It's obviously not a first date because the middle aged man is knee-deep in a conversation about his "lively squirrel population". They laugh and giggle about the state of their gardens and the hierarchy of the mice/rattle-snake food-chain. It's wonderful. Hearing people speak of the goodness of a simple life versus the curated news is refreshing and weirdly inspiring. I'll relax here for a maybe an hour, before the rest of the city wakes up. Do some reading, doodling, and writing. Then, I feel like treasure hunting at the thrift store off Broadway. I need nothing, but I am always excited for the possibility to find something unique or a little weird to add to my wardrobe. We'll see what comes my way or where I end up. I plan to live in hope. |

Brianna finds beauty in a well-worn book, in the eclectic colors and textures of a thrift store find, and in the sound of a killer guitar solo whether it be live or through a well thought out Spotify playlist. Her passions are varied and many, but they all center on appreciating the fullness of life. Archives
